Shift Handover Report Template

Purpose. Unit controllers use this template to hand over plant status, open permits, defects and operating instructions to the incoming shift.
1.When to use this template
Complete this report in the last 30 minutes of every shift and walk the incoming controller through it in person. The report covers all three sites. An incomplete or absent handover is a reportable near miss.
2.Plant status
State the load, mode and any abnormal condition of each gas turbine, the steam turbine, the wind farm and the hydro unit. Record any plant out of service and the expected return.
3.Permits and isolations
List every open permit and isolation with the plant affected and the expected restoration. Highlight any isolation that affects the ability to start or load a unit.
4.Defects and instructions
List new defects raised during the shift, standing instructions from the Operations Manager and any market or network operator instruction in force.
5.Sign off
Both controllers sign the report. The outgoing controller must not leave until the incoming controller has signed.
