Our departments
Six departments make up the business. Each page shows the purpose, the people, the measures that matter and the systems the team works in.
Control Room Operations
Operates all three generating sites from the central control room at Newport West, responding to market dispatch and grid frequency, starting, loading and shutting down units, monitoring plant through the supervisory control system and directing field operators on routine checks, isolations and first response to plant events.
Mechanical Maintenance
Maintains the mechanical plant at all sites: turbines, generators, pumps, valves, fans, pipework, seals and conveyors. Fitters carry out routine and corrective maintenance under permit, perform levelling and alignment, and support major outage overhauls so that plant returns to service on time and to specification.
Electrical, Control and Instrumentation
Maintains the electrical, protection, control and instrumentation systems across the sites, from high voltage switchgear and transformers to inverters, battery banks, pressure and temperature instrumentation and the distributed control system. Technicians diagnose faults, test and commission equipment and keep the protection schemes proven.
Wind and Hydro Operations
Runs the Ridgeback wind farm and the Mitta Ranges hydro station and dam. The crew carries out routine and corrective maintenance on wind turbines, monitors climatic conditions, maintains civil assets, operates water conveyance and control, and performs the dam safety surveillance the state requires.
Outage Planning and Engineering
Plans the scheduled outages, maintenance strategies and capital projects for all sites. Planners produce maintenance plans, estimate costs, schedule generation around outages with the market operator, manage contractors and coordinate commissioning and decommissioning of plant.
Health, Safety, Environment and Quality
Owns the safety, environmental and quality management systems, administers the permit to work system and authorisations, investigates incidents, monitors licence compliance, manages the hazardous chemicals register and coordinates the critical incident response plan and first response team for every site.
