Purpose. This register lists every hazardous chemical stored or used at the sites, its location, quantity, safety data sheet and controls, so that workers, first responders and the regulator can find what is on site.

1.Purpose

The station stores water treatment chemicals, boiler dosing chemicals, ammonia for emissions control, lubricating and hydraulic oils, diesel and gases. The register is the single record of what is held and where, and it supports the first response team and the dangerous goods placarding.

2.What the register records

Each entry records the product name, the hazard classification, the maximum quantity held, the storage location, the bunding and ventilation control, the safety data sheet date and the responsible department.

  • Product and supplier name
  • Hazard class and dangerous goods class
  • Maximum quantity and container type
  • Storage location and bund reference
  • Safety data sheet date
  • Responsible department

3.Adding a chemical

No chemical will be brought to site until it has been assessed by HSE, the safety data sheet filed and the entry added to the register. Contractors must declare chemicals at induction.

4.Chemical batching and dosing

Operators who batch or dose chemicals must use the quantities in the work instruction, must wear the personal protective equipment in the safety data sheet and must record the batch in the Operations Log.

5.Review

The register will be reviewed quarterly against the stores stock take and the placarding, and safety data sheets will be renewed at least every five years.

6.Emergency use

A printed copy of the register will be kept at the main gate and in the control room for emergency services.
